The Center for Women Policy Studies (CWPS), along with the Centre for Development and Population Activities (CEDPA), and the International Women’s Media Foundation (IWMF) launched the South Asia Initiative on Women and HIV/AIDS Policymaking in Washington, DC, December 7 –10, 2009.

The South Asia Initiative brought together women Members of Parliament, NGO leaders and journalists from Bangladesh, India and Pakistan to build long-term, sustainable cross -sector and cross-border partnerships to address the impact of HIV/AIDS on women and girls through enlightened public policy.

During their time together, these influential women leaders developed strategies to promote woman-centered HIV/AIDS policies and programs in their countries and the region. Their partnerships to ensure women’s human rights and to make women’s self-defined needs the centerpiece of HIV/AIDS policy create a strong foundation to effectively confront the HIV/AIDS epidemic.
